holy sunday
Sermon
A note from Pastor regarding his sermon:
Some people might remember that the three-year lectionary encourages us to celebrate Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday during the first Sunday of the Advent season, as a reminder that Christmas truly is the arrival of our King and Savior into the world. But the triumphal entry is also the event that begins our commemoration of Holy Sunday – the beginning of the week of Christ’s passion, when He will accomplish the salvation of humanity from its sins through His death on the cross. We’ve watched Jesus the Christ establish and demonstrate His identity as the Son of God, God’s chosen Messiah, through His miracles and His teaching. Now, we come to see Him complete the work for which He has come to live among us.
As a result, we mix Lenten and Advent hymns on this day, too… recognizing that what we are about to witness during Holy Week is the ultimate purpose for which we celebrated Christmas. With repentant joy, we remember the terrible price our God had to pay to redeem us from our sins. But we also rejoice that God has paid that price, that we might look forward to everlasting life with Him!
