Sermon
A note from Pastor regarding his sermon:
Our Old Testament and Gospel readings for this week invite us to contrast the way Jesus responded to the temptation of Satan with the way Adam and Eve failed to withstand the same temptation. Satan uses similar methods in both cases, and we may well wonder how finite and flawed human beings like ourselves could withstand the deceit and the appeals that Satan often uses to mislead us. Indeed, by ourselves, we are powerless to do so. But as our classic hymn of the day reminds us, Jesus fights Satan on our behalf. He resists the power of Satan’s temptation, and He does it on our behalf! This week, we give thanks to God that He stands in the way of Satan, protecting us and giving us the strength to resist him and cling to the promise of salvation that God has given us.
