The holy trinity
Sermon
A note from Pastor regarding his sermon:
This Sunday is Trinity Sunday, the day on which we specifically confess and meditate upon the Doctrine of the Trinity – that God is three persons, yet one God… a mystery that we cannot fully understand or explain, but is clearly seen in the Holy Scriptures.
However, there are some churches that claim the name Christian that do not believe in the Triune God. They insist that the word Trinity is never found in the Bible (which is true), and that it must therefore have been an invention that was later added to Christian doctrine (which is false). As we confess the Athanasian Creed together this Sunday, and remind ourselves of how the Trinity is demonstrated in our other creeds, our readings today call our attention specifically to the divinity of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. We remind ourselves this week that Christ is, in fact, eternal. That He is, in fact, God. And why it is so important that we understand that.
