third sunday of easter
Sermon
A note from Pastor regarding his sermon:
This Sunday may be two weeks after we celebrated Easter, but our Gospel readings still recount events that occurred on that first glorious morning when our Savior, Jesus Christ, rose from the dead and appeared to His disciples. This week, we concentrate on the story of two disciples walking on the road to the nearby town of Emmaus, who encounter Jesus and discuss with Him the way they understand the events of Holy Week.
But these disciples make some critical mistakes, and are enlightened by Jesus, who points to the Scriptures – the Old Testament, especially – to reveal to them why the events of Christ’s Passion happened the way they did. As they reflected back on their encounter with Jesus, they realized that their hearts were burning the entire time Jesus taught them. We share this in common with those disciples, as our hearts burn when we hear and study God’s Word!
