Sermon
A note from Pastor regarding his sermon:
For many of us, the story of Martin Luther’s Reformation is familiar to us. A point of pride as we remember Luther’s courage and steadfastness as he identified and attempted to correct errors that had plagued the medieval church of his day. And we give thanks to God that He sent men like Martin Luther to carefully read and teach the message of Holy Scripture so that we can learn of God’s free gift of salvation, won for us by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
But Jesus’ words in this week’s Gospel lesson remind us that while the Gospel message is eternal, it is not without opponents who try to weaken or corrupt the message God has for us about our salvation. So as we remember and celebrate Reformation Day this year, let us also remind ourselves of the fight we must fight to keep the message of the eternal Gospel pure and true!
