Sermon
A note from Pastor regarding his sermon:
In our Gospel reading for this week, Jesus responds to the last challenge He will receive in public debate with the Sadducees and leaders of the Jewish people. The Sadducees taught that there was no resurrection from the dead, but Jesus reminds them that God is a God of the living and not of the dead.
To support His answer, Jesus refers to our Old Testament reading for this week: the call God issued to Moses to lead the chosen people of Israel out of their captivity in Egypt. Jesus points out that God identifies Himself as the God of Moses’ ancestors: Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. So they must each still live! But there’s even more to Jesus’ teaching that God is the God of the living, and we do well to remember how our God differs from all of the other false gods that people have served (and continue to serve). Worship the God of the living!
