The world seeks after wealth
And all that mammon offers
Yet never is content Though gold should fill its coffers. I have a higher good, Content with it I’ll be: My Jesus is my wealth. What is the world to me! (LSB 730 St. 3)

Sermon
A note from Pastor regarding his sermon:
The Book of Ecclesiastes is often overlooked in the Old Testament, but oftentimes, Christians could find in it a lot of timeless wisdom that can speak directly to contemporary life in the United States. For example, in our Old Testament reading for this week, Solomon addresses one of the great temptations of life today: the temptation to make money and our jobs the central focus of our lives.
In the end, Solomon notes, we are tempted to spend so much time and effort amassing wealth for a future that may not even come, only to discover that our lives have been spent chasing after the wind… Chasing after something we can never catch, only to see our wealth given to the reckless or unappreciative when we die. But still, we must work to support ourselves and our families, to fulfill the responsibilities of our vocations. How can we appreciate the temporal blessings that God bestows upon us without making them the vain central focus of our lives?
