“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored?…” (Matthew 5:13)

HYMNS FOR THE DAY

fifth sunday after epiphany

Sermon

A note from Pastor regarding his sermon:

Our Gospel reading for this week immediately follows the Beatitudes that we read from the Gospel last week, at the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount. Here, Jesus informs us that we are to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. These are heavy responsibilities, borne first by the men who occupy the office of the holy ministry, and then all Christians as they represent Christ in their daily lives. But what does it really mean to be salt or light? And what should we think when we – or others – fail to measure up to the expectations that Jesus’ words this week describe?
