Alleluia! Sing to Jesus;
His the scepter, His the throne; Alleluia! His the triumph, His the victory alone. Hark! The songs of peaceful Zion
Thunder like a mighty flood: “Jesus out of ev’ry nation Has redeemed us by His blood.” (LSB 821 st. 5)

HYMNS FOR THE DAY

last sunday of the church year

Sermon

A note from Pastor regarding his sermon:

For the past couple of weeks, as we’ve read Jesus’ warning about His return and the end of this world, we’ve heard the warning not to follow false teachers and prophets who claim that they know precisely when the end will come. While we are always to be ready for His Second Coming, we are not to be misled by people who claim it is imminent, or that they are the Christ.

But this week, the prophet Malachi warns us about the opposite end of the spectrum – a threat that is also quite prevalent in this world: Those who deny that Jesus will return, or that this world will, in fact, come to an end. Such people often advise others that there is no harm in living a life of sin and self-gratification. After all, those who follow their own desires and lusts seem to escape punishment.

But make no mistake, fellow Christians! Our readings for this week reassure us that Jesus will return. That those who scoff or ignore Him will end up receiving punishment. That His name will be glorified!
