sixth sunday of easter

Sermon

A note from Pastor regarding his sermon:

Our Gospel reading for this week describes a fairly curious scene: A notorious pool of water in Jerusalem is known to grant healing at a particular time each year, as the waters are stirred up. But there’s a catch: only the first person to enter the pool when this happens receives the healing he desires. The others are out of luck, and have to wait until the next time the waters move.

When Jesus comes to this pool in this week’s Gospel lesson, He encounters a man who has been coming to this pool for thirty-eight years, only to return disappointed because he is never able to get into the waters before others do. But as we know, Jesus is God, and has the power not only to restore us to physical strength or health, but to make us whole in body and in soul. If we would be made whole, we would do well to put our trust in Jesus and listen to what He has to say to us.
