transfiguration of our lord
Sermon
A note from Pastor regarding his sermon:
The season of Lent is rapidly approaching, and so this Sunday we celebrate the Transfiguration of Our Lord, Jesus Christ. The Transfiguration’s place in the church year is fitting: It concludes the season of Epiphany with one more undeniable revelation of the true identity and glory of Jesus Christ, true God and true man, the promised Messiah who has come to save humanity from its sins. And it ushers in the season of Lent, as we focus on repentance for our sins and remembering the last weeks of Jesus’ earthly ministry, before He went to the cross to die on our behalf.
We might appropriately feel a sense of sorrow as we transition from Epiphany to Lent, as we remember our sins and the terrible price Jesus paid so that they would not condemn us. As we sing ‘alleluia’ for the last time for a while… But Jesus’ words of consolation to His disciples at the Transfiguration should also comfort us: “Rise and have no fear.” We know how this story ends!
