Sermon
A note from Pastor regarding his sermon:
Last week, Jesus warned us that many who attempt to enter through the narrow door will be shut out of the kingdom of God… even those who plead that they ate and drank in the presence of the Lord. This week, our Gospel lesson tells us the story of Jesus dining with Pharisees, who are watching Him closely.
The parables that Jesus tells today develop a prominent theme in the Gospel according to Saint Luke built upon the premise of table fellowship. With whom does Jesus choose to eat? Where do they sit? But far from simply giving us practical advice about how to behave at dinner parties so as to win more glory or respect for ourselves, Jesus’ teaching today helps to illustrate how the kingdom of heaven works, and what it truly means to eat and drink with Jesus in that kingdom.
