A note from Pastor regarding his sermon:

Our Gospel reading for this week tells the familiar story of Jesus travelling to Galilee and calling the first of His disciples, including our beloved St. James. But instead of concentrating on that aspect of the reading specifically, let us instead consider the clear overlap between our Old Testament reading from Isaiah and the Gospel reading from Matthew.

While difficult names and unfamiliar places often lead us to overlook it, the geography of the Bible often gives us additional layers of understanding when it comes to the life of Jesus Christ. This week, we read about Jesus leaving the Jordan River outside of Jerusalem, and travelling far to the north, to the region of Galilee. This is the land that was settled by the tribes of Zebulun and Naphtali. But as we consider what this land was like, and the history of the people who lived there, we get a wonderful confirmation that Jesus has truly come to be the world’s Savior!
