“If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.” (John 20:23)

SCRIPTURE READINGS

HYMNS FOR THE DAY

second sunday of easter

Sermon

A note from Pastor regarding his sermon:

While our concentration during Holy Week is understandably on the narrative events of the Gospel readings that tell the story of Christ’s trial, crucifixion, death, and resurrection, the season of Easter allows us to look back at those events with an eye toward the theological lessons and themes Christ develops through His final teachings and His appearances to the disciples following His rise from the tomb.

As we heard on Easter Sunday, we are struck by the fact that Christ’s resurrection story immediately begins to emphasize the importance of telling the good news to those who need to hear it. And we will see that so much of the Easter story continues to reinforce the theme of Christ’s Church being tasked with the proclamation of the Word. This week, we note how our first reading, from the Book of Acts, shows us how and why the Christian Church has survived for so long, despite so many challenges.
