Sermon
A note from Pastor regarding his sermon:
Over the past two weeks, our Gospel readings have invited us to consider what it really means to confess that Jesus is the Christ. Much of our time contemplating this confession has focused on the fact that Jesus as the Christ means that He is the complete fulfilment of God’s promises of salvation – the only one who can restore us from our sins and unite us to God once more.
For the next couple of weeks, we will continue to meditate on Jesus’ identity as the promised Messiah, but especially how the Messiah’s work is closely connected to the cross upon which Jesus suffered and died. If we lose sight of the cross while celebrating the life of Jesus, we can quite easily overlook the most important reason God came to live among us in human flesh, and we can forget that sin is still a big deal as we live a Christian life in this world.
