But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.” (Matthew 14:27)

HYMNS FOR THE DAY

eleventh sunday after pentecost

Sermon

A note from Pastor regarding his sermon:

After Jesus feeds the five thousand, He sends His disciples across the Sea of Galilee, dismisses the crowd, retreats onto the mountain to pray, and then catches up with the disciples as He walks upon the water. This is an awesome – and initially, terrifying – sight! For the second time in His earthly ministry, Jesus demonstrates His mastery over the natural world. The first time, He calmed the storm that threatened the boat His disciples were sailing. This time, He walks upon the water, and even invites Peter to come out onto the water to join Him. But these miracles – like the others He performed during His ministry – have a specific purpose: They reveal who Jesus truly is. And we would do well to pay attention!
