Sermon
A note from Pastor regarding his sermon:
One of the most distinctive things about our annual observance of Trinity Sunday is the Athanasian Creed, which takes the place of the Nicene Creed that we typically confess during the Divine Service. Both of these creeds – along with the Apostles’ Creed that we learn in the Small Catechism and confess during the rite of Baptism – have been adopted by Lutherans as faithful confessions of the faith revealed in Holy Scripture. While not found in the Bible itself, these creeds have been around since the early history of the Christian Church to outline the central doctrines of the Christian faith and correct the various heresies that threatened to fracture and confuse Christ’s Church in its early stages.
Today, there are some denominations that claim to be Christian that reject the creeds, and some that even reject the central doctrine espoused by the creeds: the triune nature of God as one God with three persons. Trinity Sunday gives us an opportunity to remember the significance of what we confess together during each of our worship services, and give thanks to God that He has revealed Himself to us in Scripture as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
